Moving house in Darwin's wet season
Moving during the wet is very doable, you just need a plan for the rain and the humidity.
Plan around the weather
- Storms in the wet often build later in the day, so an early start gives you the best chance of a dry move.
- Check the forecast the day before and talk to your removalist about a backup plan.
- Make sure paths and driveways at both ends are clear and safe to walk on when wet.
Protect your belongings
- Cardboard weakens in humidity and rain. Use sturdy boxes and don't leave them sitting on the ground.
- Wrap mattresses, lounges and timber furniture in plastic or covers, and keep electronics well wrapped.
- Keep important documents and valuables in sealed plastic tubs or bags.
Keep the floors safe
- Lay down towels or mats at the door so wet footprints don't make floors slippery.
- Ask your landlord or agent about protecting floors at the new place if you need to.
